Preparation instruction

Oven: You will need: 1 package (400 g) brownie mix, 1 whole egg, 2 tbsp (30 mL) water, 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter or margarine, softened, 1/4 cup (60 mL) vegetable oil, 1 pouch semi-sweet chocolate chips (included). 1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Lightly grease sides and bottom of pan with shortening or oil or line with parchment paper (use baking cups for brownie bites). 2. Blend brownie mix, egg, water and butter or margarine in a large bowl on low speed of an electric mixer for 2 minutes. 3. Scrape down sides of bowl, add oil and continue mixing on low speed for an additional 4 minutes. In the last 30 seconds of mixing sprinkle chocolate chips into mix and continue mixing. 4. Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. For brownie bites, divide batter into 12 muffin cups, approximately 2 1/2 tbsp (48 g) each. Bake on the middle rack of pre-heated oven for time indicated below. Brownies are done when toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean. Do not overbake, as this causes dryness. Do not test for doneness by touching with finger. Cool brownies completely before cutting. Makes one 20 cm (8") square or 12 brownie bites. 20 cm (8") square, bake for 31 to 34 minutes. 12 brownie bites (fill 1/2 full), bake for 22 to 25 minutes. Since ovens vary in temperature, these are guidelines only.
